We are pleased to have this opportunity to acquaint you with the First Presbyterian Church of Gulfport, Mississippi (FPC), a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). We invite you to find out more about who we are, what we believe, and what we are doing to minister to our community and world by browsing the links to the left.
What is FPC all about?
At FPC, there are three key commitments that set us apart and that characterize us as a church. Please keep in mind that these commitments are not intended to be a comprehensive statement about who we are. For more information on that, please see the link to the left entitled "What we believe."
1. Christ-centered worship. Colossians 1:15-23 ascribes Jesus Christ a place of preeminence above all else as, among other things, the One in whom all the fullness of God dwells, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, and the Reconciler and Peacemaker of all who believe in Him. It is for this reason that exalting Jesus Christ is at the very center of what we are about as a church. We seek to lift high the cross of Christ through our music, our giving, our praying, and our preaching.
2. Word-centered preaching and teaching. We believe that the Bible alone is the ultimate source of truth about the nature of God, the nature of man, and the way of salvation. For this reason, the main focus of our worship services, Sunday School classes, and small group Bible studies at FPC is teaching and applying the truth of the Bible to our every day lives.
3. God-centered living. God is the most important reality in the universe, and, yet, so often our lives tragically fail to reflect this. Our lives typically reveal that sports or entertainment or children or self is the most important reality in the universe. At FPC, we believe that this is wrong. We believe that the Christian's entire life is to be primarily God-centered, not self-centered and not even others-centered. We believe that Christians are to live as though God really is the most important reality in the universe. And this means that the Christian life will be one that keeps God's commandments (John 14:15), that "seeks first the kingdom of God" (Matthew 6:33), and that wholeheartedly loves others and desires to serve them (Matthew 7:12).
If you would like additional information about our church or about anything that we believe or if you are curious about the particular truth claims of Christianity, we would be happy to talk with you further. You can email any of the members of our staff (follow the "Staff" link in the menu to the left) or call the church office (use the "Contact us" link) to speak with us directly.
