Covering the Basis

Strong export demand, especially from China, is on pace to outstrip last year's export demand and is the force behind higher futures and cash prices as well as a firmer basis. If export demand holds through the South American harvest, basis levels will likely remain strong for the balance of the crop year.
Oil vs. Ethanol - 4

After extensive research, DTN concludes that oil receives more taxpayer dollar support than ethanol, but ethanol is more dependent on the subsidy dollars for survival. In this fourth part of a special series, DTN's Todd Neeley looks at some of the subsidies that oil gets related to its overseas business, but why they're so important to the U.S. access to oil.
Farm Runoff Criticized in Chesapeake

USDA released a draft report about the effectiveness of conservation practices in the Chesapeake Bay region as the EPA is looking to tighten pollution controls. Meanwhile, farm groups have written senators opposing a clean-water bill and stating that EPA is overstepping its authority.
