Dr. Whitecar and his cadr of medical professionals deliver state of the art hematology and oncology care, in a responsive, caring environment. Dr. Whitecar was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA; attended high school at La Salle High School and college at La Salle College, both in Philadelphia. He graduated from Jefferson Medical College, where he was a junior electee to Alpha Omega Alpha, National Medical Honor Society, and served as the president of the local chapter in his senior year.
He has been a resident of Columbus, MS since April 1997. He and his wife, Kathleen, have been married 39 years. They have four children: Linnane Renee Batzel, MD, MBA, an emergency room physician in Altoona, PA, John Philip III, Michael Anthony and Colleen Jeanette, who is a fourth year medical student at Jefferson Medical College. Jefferson is the medical school of both Dr. Whitecar and his older daughter, Linnane.
After graduation, he spent four years at the University of Minnesota as an intern in Medicine, a resident in Medicine and a Fellow in Hematology. In 1969 he was a Clinical Fellow of the American Cancer Society. He was then selected as the Jesse H. Jones Fellow in Cancer Education and Senior Fellow in the Department of Developmental Therapeutics, The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute, Houston, TX. In 1970, he was selected as the USPHP Senior Clinical Trainee in Cancer control.
He served as Chief Hematology Service, Department of Developmental Therapeutics, The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Hospital Tumor Institute, Houston, TX from 1970-71.
He served his military obligation from July 1971 to June 1974 as Chief, Oncology Service, Department of Medicine; Principal Investigator, Southwest Cancer Chemotherapy Study Group and Director of the Fellowship Program in Medical Oncology at U.S. Army, Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, TX.
He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology and board eligible in hematology and he is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Medical Quality.
